Journeys Announces 2005/06 Artists!
Le Moyne College Music Journeys
Concert Series announces its 2005-06 series. All concerts are on Fridays at 8:00
pm and will be presented at the Coyne Performing Arts Center on the campus of
Lemoyne College. These concerts will be part of residencies, which bring the
artists to numerous public schools in the Central New York area, as well as the
Le Moyne campus. Tickets for each event are $12/$7 for students and seniors.
Season subscriptions can be purchased for $80/$50 for students and seniors.

JIBARO: Miguel Zenon Quartet – September 23, 2005
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico,
Miguel Zenón is a major new voice on the international jazz scene. In
his very short, but rather illustrious career, the 28 year old Zenón has
performed and recorded with David Sanchez, Danilo Perez, and Branford
Marsalis. Zenon’s recent CD for Marsalis Records is a musical
exploration of Jibaro, a rhythmic form of Puerto Rican folk poetry.

WHEN IN ROME: Derek Bermel – November 11, 2005
Derek Bermel can be
placed among such composers as Debussy and Ravel as a winner of the
prestigious Rome Prize. Equally gifted as both clarinettist and
composer, Mr. Bermel will be joined by a cast of local artists in
performances of his works as well as pieces by Bartok and Stravinsky.

WOLFY TURNS 250!: Paavali Jumppanen – January 27, 2006
The 2004 Deutsche
Gramophone recording debut of Finland’s great young pianist Paavali
Jumppanen elicited rave international reviews. Join Mr. Jumppanen as he
celebrates Mozart’s 250th birthday (b. Jan 27, 1756), performing his
13th piano concerto with the Lemoyne String Ensemble. Also, an
introduction to Finnish culture through the music of Jean Sibelius and
Paavo Heininen.

Artist: Soweto Kinch Quartet: Jazz Rap-City - February 17, 2006
Jazz saxophonist and rapper Soweto Kinch has set the U.K.
on fire with his unique, new blend of rap, hip-hop, and jazz. An Oxford
history graduate, Soweto brings a social consciousness to both his music
and his life. Having started a music program called The Live Box for
urban youth in his native Birmingham, England, Mr. Kinch announced his
presence on the international music scene with his 2003 debut on Dune
Records, Conversations with the Unseen. Please join the Soweto Kinch
Quartet in their U.S. tour celebrating Kinch's second Dune release, Jazz

The Mellits Consort: Mellits Turns Forty!

Frederic Chui: Frederic the Great - May
5, 2006
Pianist Frederic Chiu returns for a rare
musical evening. Mr. Chiu will spend one week at Le Moyne developing a
dramatic staging of Schubert's Swan Songs some of the last music to
leave the composer's pen. This joint production will feature Frederic as
solo pianist, interspersing Schubert's music with dramatic poetry
readings by Le Moyne students. Staging and lighting as determined by the
weeklong collaboration between this great artist and our talented
students.
